About Minesweeper Classic

Minesweeper Classic is a free browser logic game for quick breaks and careful deduction. Each field hides a fixed number of mines. Open a tile to see how many mines touch it, then use those numbers to work out where the mines must be. Your first click is always safe: the field is generated only after you open the first tile, and that tile plus its eight neighbours stay clear. Choose Beginner 9×9 with 10 mines, Intermediate 16×16 with 40 mines, or Expert 16×30 with 99 mines. Open every safe tile to clear the field; flagging every mine is optional but helps you keep count. The timer stops the moment you win or hit a mine, and your best time for each difficulty is saved by the HappyBiu Shell, with no account and no personal data required.

How to play

  • Tap, click, or press Enter on the focused tile to open it.
  • Long-press a tile, right-click it, or turn on Flag Mode to place a flag. Press F to flag the keyboard cursor.
  • Use the arrow keys to move the cursor. The number on a tile counts the mines in the eight surrounding tiles.
  • The first tile you open is always safe, together with its eight neighbours.
  • Clear every safe tile to win. Hitting a mine ends the round and reveals the field.
  • Press P to pause. The Shell also pauses when the page loses focus or the device rotates.
  • Append ?seed=your-seed to the page URL to replay a seeded field. Open the same first tile to reproduce the same mine layout.

Pixel field and feedback

The field is presented as a 2D pixel survey board: hard-edged tiles, a spiked mine sprite, square flags and a generated light/dark backdrop driven by games/minesweeper/art-brief.json. Reveals, flags, explosions and clears each have a matching animation and sound cue. The game follows the Shell sound control, stops its procedural mine-sonar music when paused or hidden, and respects prefers-reduced-motion. It collects no personal data, loads no analytics or advertising scripts inside the iframe, and saves only best times and the preferred difficulty through game:save. If storage is unavailable, the game remains fully playable for the session.
